NEA part 4 - My Audience

Tuesday 26th March 2019
My audience

Learning Objectives:

K: about audience segmentation.
U: how audience segmentation effects media products.
BAT: conduct research and create an audience profile for your individual product.
CO: Use media terminology throughout.

  • Name 5 ways in which audiences can be categorised.
Age, gender, race/nationality, sexuality and social class.

  • Why do you think it's important for media producers to categorise audiences?
It's important for media producers to categorise audiences because they will know who their target audience is and what type of media product would appeal to a certain type of audience. For example, a magazine about football would appeal to teenage boys.

  • What is the target audience as described in your chosen brief?
The target audience for my chosen brief is 10-13 year olds.

  • Give a short explanation as to your understanding of the target audience given in your chosen brief.
People in the age group of 10-13 would be interested in sport magazines (if male) and fashion/gossip magazines (if female). Due to the fact that the target audience is young, they would want a magazine that is easy to read and need as little attention as possible to enjoy it. Also, they would want the front cover to be colourful with lots of pictures, in order to grab their attention.

The information I found useful was that I now know that my audience is mostly male 14 year olds, who want to read a football magazine. Also, in the magazine they would like to see a guide on how to become a better player. Therefore, I will use these results, in order to make my magazine appeal to the target audience.

My target audience now are male 14 year olds, who are interested in football and want to become a better player. Also, the players make them want to watch football and the front cover is what makes them pick up a magazine.
